23 Nov Priory Integrated College Named Apple Distinguished School

Priory Integrated College in Holywood is delighted to announce that it has been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for 2016-18 for its use of Apple technology to empower students and teachers and raise standards across the whole school.

The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for schools that meet criteria for innovation, leadership and educational excellence, and which demonstrate a clear vision of exemplary learning environments.

“We are proud to be one of the schools in the UK to have achieved this award,” said Priory Principal, Jacqui Magennis.  “It is a validation of all of the hard work invested by the young people and the college staff over recent years.  In that time, learning across the curriculum has been transformed.  The introduction of our Digital Classrooms Initiative in 2014, which has provided every child and teacher with their own iPad, has been a key feature of this transformation.”

The selection of Priory as an Apple Distinguished School highlights its success in providing an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages pupils of all abilities and provides tangible evidence of their academic achievements.  “Pupils across the ability range have been engaged, excited and empowered by the wider variety of opportunities for individualised learning that the iPad has provided” said the college’s eLearning Co-ordinator, Jonathan Mansfield.  “Apple technology has provided new ways of developing pupils’ skills of communication, creativity and collaboration.  In addition, they can now take their classroom everywhere, blurring the lines between learning in school and at home.”

Looking to the future, there are many things that Priory still wants to achieve. The next development in their Digital Classrooms Initiative is to develop a suite of Multi-Touch Books for publication, as well as a range of courses for pupils in coding and app design, which will open up a wealth of career opportunities, both here in NI and beyond.  Exciting times ahead!

Priory IC is an all-ability, integrated college, educating pupils aged 11-18 from across North Down and Greater Belfast.  If you’d like to learn more about the college, their Open Night is on Thursday 12th January 2017 from 6:30pm.
