Theatre Workshop

29 Jan Theatre Workshop

On Thursday 23rd January the drama department GCSE and A Level Performing Arts students participated in a full day practical workshop with ‘Bruiser Theatre Company’ at the Mac Theatre in Belfast.

Bruiser Theatre company is one of Northern Ireland’s most vibrant and exciting arts organisations, processing a truly unique style of their own. The company focuses on the actor’s ability to fully engage the audience without relying on elaborate props, costume, set or lighting. Priory students got to experience the performance style for themselves in three separate workshops, led by Bruiser’s professional actors.  Students got the opportunity to focus on physical theatre techniques, script interpretation, specific vocal and ensemble performance skills.

We were treated at the end of the day to an edited performance of ‘Bouncers’ in the theatre by the Bruiser facilitators, which perfectly demonstrated the application of skills we had been practicing all day.  The trip was a great opportunity for both GCSE and A level students to work together and continue developing skills to apply in their classroom.

It was really interesting working with one of Northern Ireland’s leading theatre companies” Natalia Year 13

“It was exciting to be pushed beyond your comfort zone in an environment outside of the classroom” Jack Year 13

Well done to all involved for highly creative input throughout the whole day!

We are already looking forward to our next trip to the Lyric Theatre in February to see the well-loved musical, ‘Kiss me Kate’.
