Priory Hosts Annual Primary Choral Festival

05 Mar Priory Hosts Annual Primary Choral Festival

On 3rd March Priory College hosted their 4th Annual Primary School Festival involving over 230 young voices from 8 of our feeder Primary Schools.
The day gives Primary Schools the chance to see what other school choirs are performing, gives music coordinators a chance to share repertoire and good practice and lets the children make new friends. Our Choral Festival is non competitive, so it has a mutually supportive atmosphere where all are recognising the strengths of each school choir.
Our Head of Music, Heather Ferguson puts the choirs through their paces at the start of the day with vocal warm ups to encourage good singing technique. Each choir will have its performance professionally recorded and a CD of all the performances of the day is produced.  The day culminated with a performance from our very own Priory Singers and a group performance of a song which all choirs sang.  This year our song was ‘Hand in Hand,’ a song about working together to achieve fantastic results.
Ms Ferguson said, ‘Having the opportunity to stand in front of nearly 300 voices and lead them in song is truly special, the power and intensity of the sound is very moving. It’s a privilege to work with such amazing voices.’
Our participating school this year were:
Glencraig IPS
Elmgrove PS
Holywood PS
Sullivan Prep
Gilnahirk PS
West Winds PS
Knocknagoney PS
Ballymagee PS
